Resolution 06-04:  A Resolution Concerning the Implementation of a Textbook Assistance Program

for UNC-Chapel Hill Employees

 

PROPOSED RESOLUTION OF THE EMPLOYEE FORUM

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL

July 5, 2006

 

 

WHEREAS, the mission of the Employee Forum is to address constructively the concerns of the employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and

 

 

WHEREAS, those concerns include a need for textbook purchasing assistance for employee education; and

 

 

WHEREAS, current programs for educational assistance provide funds for tuition costs only; and

 

 

WHEREAS, the Employee Forum Staff Development Fund’s purpose is for staff development and education; therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Employee Forum of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recommends to the Chancellor: to approve a Textbook Assistance Program, sponsored by the Employee Forum, that will provide University employees with reimbursement for required textbooks purchased in connection with courses for which reimbursement is available under the Educational Assistance Program.  The amount of reimbursement available in connection with the textbook program shall be limited to $100.00 per person, per fiscal year, with a maximum spending limit per fiscal year not to exceed $2500.00.
